€1000,000,000!

That's not how much the government needs to cut in its next budget. According to today's Irish times newspaper it's how much our Film (and TV) industry could be worth in 2016. Of course this will never happen due to the uncertain nature of the industry. Then the article says we need to become more 'international'! Great, back to the '90s with crap Oirish productions that no-one liked or remembers. What STC would like to see in the next five years is (a) a few 'auteur' films and (b) a few commerical, multiplex successes. What we don't need are a host of international co-productions that are Irish versions of foreign titles. We don't need 'common industry training standards' either as our films look identical enough already. What we need is sonething new, fresh, original, controversial, and memorable. This year's Snap was a good start.
