WHERE'S THE IRISH RECESSION MOVIE?

Now that we're deep in recession and there's no light at the end of the economic tunnel one question needs to get asked: where is the Irish recession movie?

Where is it? Where are the social realist or state-of-the nation films? Where's the movie about negative equity, repossession, redundancies, emigration, racial tensions, unemployment, law graduates out of work, ghost estates, foreign nationals commiting suicide, and families living in poverty. We have stories to tell indeed! Are Irish filmmakers afraid of this stuff? Are they too obsessed with focus pulls, dolly shots, and using colour filters for different characters? Surely the recession movie could be made on smaller budgets than before? What's the problem? Has the Irish film 'industry' been set up in a way that these kind of pictures will never get made? The recession is two years old and there is still no sign of an Irish film that explores our current economic crisis. There is something wrong here when Irish filmmakers have nothing to say about these times or are afraid to do so.
