IRISH FILM GENRES PART 24: ENVIRONMENT
As in environmental protection. The only one that dealt with these issues was the rountine Taffin. Plenty of room for more titles?

IRISH FILM GENRES PART 23: IMMIGRATION
A recent addition to Irish cinema with many people arriving into the country (and most leaving again!): Foxes (recommended), Trafficked, and W.C.

IRISH FILM GENRES PART 22: COMING OF AGE
Loads of titles here (and very few recommended!). Another big genre in '90s Irish cinema dealing with the transition from youth/innocence into adulthood: Last of the high kings, Last bus home, Circle of friends, 32A, and Cowboys and angels.

CHEERS GERMANY!
They may have funded the Celtic Tiger and now want their money back but someone from that country has read this blog recently. So cheers!

IRISH FILM GENRES PART 21: EXPERIMENTAL
Which could be considered less 'mainstream' and more confusing(!) than Arthouse? There was the strange Sugar in black and white (of course!), I could read the sky, and the impressive All souls' day.

ONE HUNDRED MORNINGS GETS A FIVE-STAR REVIEW!
In today's Irish Independent! Even said it's the best Irish movie of 2011 (which I doubt?). Looking forward to seeing this now.

WHAT'S COMING SOON?
After an impressive month in March things have quietened down with no new Irish releases appearing. Seems The guard and The runway are coming out in the summer. Also, One hundred mornings is due a release soon. So, that's about it? Only another three or four titles this year?

WELL DONE MAN MADE MEN PART 2!
Big article in today's Irish Independent on how the €4,000 feature Man made men got selected for some famous American film festival. So well done!

IRISH FILM GENRES PART 20: DOCUMENTARY
Another genre that gets no mention on this blog but should still be noted. Like Irish animation it receives more acclaim than most live-action titles made here: If I should fall from grace, His & hers, Southpaw, and Saoirse.

IRISH FILM GENRES PART 19: PLAYS
Without a doubt Ireland has made a bigger impact in world theatre than cinema. So it's no surprise that so many Irish films are based on older plays: Disco pigs, Dancing at Lughnasa, Philadelphia here I come, Studs, Juno and the paycock, and The Quare fellow.

IRISH FILM GENRES PART 18: 1979
Sure someone else has noticed this but there are more Irish films set in 1979 than 1916! 32A, Last bus home and Turning green are the main ones! Even the On the edge soundtrack used the Smashing Pumpkins' song 1979!
