Ever watch an Irish movie and say 'hang on a second, I've seen this before?'. Well you may not be imagining things as several movies made here are strangely similar.
Silent grace & H3
Before Hunger made every Irish political prison movie look sh*t there were Silent Grace and H3. One was an IRA prison movie and the other was also an IRA prison movie. The only difference was the sex. No not another greenhouse scene from Scum! In Silent Grace the prisoners were women and in H3 they were all men. Apart from that they were both filmed in a similar style.
The Escapist & The Escapist
That is not a typo. Two Irish-made prison movies with the same title. The first one was about Johnny Miller trying to get into prison. The second was about Brian Cox trying to get out of prison!
When the sky falls & Veronic Guerin
Two movies about the murdered journalist.
Ordinary decent criminal & The General
Two movies about the Dublin gangster.
Gold in the streets & Beyond the Pale
Two talky movies about young Irish emigrants in America.
Boys eats girl & Dead meat
Two Irish zombie movies - one made by people with no interest in horror and the other made by people with too much interest in horror.
Ulysses & Bloom
Famous Joyce novel - the first is from the '60s while the other is a recent video feature. The older one is better.
True north & Ondine
The first is set on a trawler, filmed off the Cork coast, and they catch a female immigrant in the net. The second is set on a trawler, filmed off the Cork coast, and they catch a female immigrant in the net!
The commitments & The Last bus home
The first one is about a soul band destined for stardom until they fall out and split. The second one is about a punk band destined for stardom until they fall out and split.
The Magdalene sisters & Song for a raggy boy
The first is about girls in a home being abused by the nuns. The second is about boys in a home being abused by the brothers.
Dorothy Mills & Daisy chain
The first one is a horror movie set in a village about a young girl with strange powers. The second one is also a horror movie set in a village about a young girl with strange powers.
